Planning your trip with Aer Lingus? Understanding their baggage allowance policies is essential to avoid unexpected fees and ensure a smooth journey. Here's everything you need to know about Aer Lingus baggage allowance rules, including carry-on, checked baggage, excess baggage fees, and special items.

Aer Lingus Carry-On Baggage Allowance

Aer Lingus allows passengers to bring one carry-on bag and one personal item (such as a purse or laptop bag) for free. The carry-on baggage must not exceed 55 cm x 40 cm x 24 cm in size and weigh no more than 10 kg for transatlantic flights. For regional flights, the weight limit is reduced to 7 kg. If your carry-on bag exceeds the weight limit, expect to pay an additional Aer Lingus baggage fee of 35 euros at the airport.

Aer Lingus Checked Baggage Allowance

For most fare types, including Plus, Advantage, and AerSpace, you are entitled to one free checked bag weighing up to 20 kg. Saver fare passengers must pay for checked luggage, with fees varying based on route and weight. The checked baggage must not exceed 158 cm in total size. Aer lingus baggage weight  fees also apply if you exceed the standard allowance.

Aer Lingus Excess Baggage Fees

To avoid additional costs, it’s important to pre-book baggage or check your bag’s weight. If your checked baggage exceeds the allowed weight, you will face excess baggage charges based on your route. For European flights, excess baggage fees can range from €10 to €65, depending on the weight and booking method.

Special Items: Sports Equipment and Musical Instruments

Aer Lingus accommodates sports equipment like golf bags, bicycles, and trekking gear, which must be packed properly within the size and weight limits. For musical instruments, you can bring one on board if it meets the carry-on size requirements (L24W40H55 cm) and weighs under 10 kg. Larger instruments must be checked or purchased a window seat for safe transport.

Aer Lingus Lost Baggage Policy

In case of lost baggage, Aer Lingus advises passengers to report the issue immediately at the airport. A tracking number will be provided to track your missing baggage. If your luggage is still missing after 72 hours, you can request a refund or compensation for the loss.

Conclusion

By familiarizing yourself with the Aer Lingus baggage policy, you can travel with ease, avoiding unnecessary baggage fees. Whether you're flying on a transatlantic route or within Europe, understanding your Aer Lingus Airlines baggage allowance and pre-booking baggage options will help ensure a smooth and cost-effective travel experience.
