Detroit, Kansas City get first wins in MLB Wild Card Series

The 'underdogs' Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals won the first game of the American League Wild Card Series (WC, best-of-three) of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Detroit, which got on the last train to the postseason as the 6th seed in the league, won 3-1 in the first game of the World Series against the 3rd seed Houston Astros held at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, USA on the 2nd (Korean time), led by the dazzling performance of left-handed pitcher Tarik Scubal, who won the pitcher's triple crown this year.
Scubal held the Houston offense to zero runs over six innings, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out six.
Detroit held on to the win by scoring three runs on three consecutive hits in the second inning with two outs and runners on second and third base, with the score tied 0-0.
Detroit is returning to the fall baseball stage after a 10-year hiatus, while Houston is a powerhouse that has advanced to the league championship series for seven consecutive years up until last year.
The fifth-seeded Kansas City Royals also defeated the fourth-seeded Baltimore Orioles 1-0 in Game 1 of the World Series at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland.
Royals superstar Bobby Witt Jr., who had a .332 batting average, 32 home runs and 109 RBIs in the regular season, lived up to his reputation with a game-winning single to left field in the bottom of the sixth with two outs and a runner on third base.
Royals left-hander Cole Reagan led the way to victory with a six-inning, eight-strikeout, no-run performance. Baltimore went 1-for-7 with scoring chances in the game and lost.
Game 2 of the WC, which will determine which team will advance to the American League Division Series, will be held at the same location on the 3rd.
