In conditions such as NMD, muscle tissue breaks down, which could lead to an imbalance in electrolytes such as calcium and potassium, further complicating the horse’s condition.

Reduced ability to manage stress:

Horses deficient in Vitamin E may also have a reduced ability to handle stress, including the physiological stress of exercise and sweating. This reduced capacity could lead to a greater loss of electrolytes during physical exertion, as the horse’s muscles and cells are less equipped to handle the demands. Replenishing electrolytes and Vitamin E for horses may be necessary to support recovery and performance during intense exercise.

Increased susceptibility to dehydration:

Vitamin E deficiency could indirectly contribute to dehydration by impairing a horse’s ability to retain fluids. Since electrolytes play a role in fluid balance, any disruption in electrolyte levels caused by muscle damage or poor cellular function could lead to dehydration, especially in performance horses that sweat heavily. Supplementing with Vitamin E may help mitigate this risk by supporting cell integrity and function.
