A Sensory Journey: Exploring Singapore’s Art, Food, and Culture in London

Dining at the Corner Room: A Memorable Experience
Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at the Corner Room with my family, where we indulged in a delightful array of dishes created by the talented chef Nuno Mendes. It was an unforgettable dining experience, and naturally, I documented it in a blog post—featuring the rich flavors and exquisite dishes we tasted. (You can read more about that experience by clicking here.)
However, this time my visit to the Corner Room had a different purpose. I was honored to be invited as a guest of the Singapore Tourism Board and Unlisted Collection for an evening filled with sensory delights, showcasing Singapore’s art, food, and culture.
Unlisted Collection Hotels: Personality with a Twist
What stands out most about Unlisted Collection hotels is their distinctive character and charm. Each hotel exudes a unique personality, offering much more than just a place to stay. For instance, the Town Hall Hotel—where this special event took place—has a quirky, hipster vibe that perfectly combines modern luxury with a playful edge. With its beautifully crafted woodwork and stunningly designed rooms, it’s hard not to fall in love with this boutique hotel’s atmosphere.
If you follow them on Instagram, you’ll get a sense of what I’m talking about—their posts capture the hotel's edgy yet elegant aesthetic, which feels both inviting and exclusive.
A Warm Welcome with a Singaporean Twist
Upon arrival, my partner James and I, along with a group of travel bloggers and journalists, were warmly welcomed with a uniquely Singaporean cocktail—Ondeh Ondeh, a drink inspired by traditional Singaporean desserts. This refreshing welcome drink set the tone for the rest of the evening, hinting at the sensory journey we were about to embark on.
Our hosts then took us on a tour of the Town Hall Hotel, showcasing their stylish rooms and luxurious apartments. Although I’m a Londoner myself, the temptation to spend a weekend here is strong—the space exudes a chic, tranquil vibe that makes you feel instantly at ease. In fact, one guest reportedly stayed here for over a year, a testament to the hotel’s irresistible charm.
And of course, I can't forget to mention Dizzy, the hotel’s resident Greyhound. Adopted from the Retired Greyhound Trust, Dizzy adds an extra layer of warmth and character to the hotel, greeting guests with her calm and gentle demeanor.
An Evening of Singaporean Flavors and Sounds
As we mingled, we were treated to an array of Singaporean snacks prepared by the renowned chef Anthony Yeoh, whose culinary creations offered a tantalizing glimpse into the rich and diverse flavors of Singapore’s food scene. Every bite was a delicious reminder of my previous trip to Singapore, where the food is as vibrant and varied as its culture.
To complement the culinary experience, we were entertained by the dynamic musical group Nada. Their performance was electric, infusing the evening with energy and excitement. The combination of bold flavors and lively music made it a true sensory feast.
Connecting with Fellow Bloggers and Travelers
One of the highlights of the evening was the opportunity to meet and connect with other travel bloggers and journalists. I always enjoy discovering new voices in the travel community, and this event introduced me to some fantastic bloggers such as Rexy Edventures, Travel with a Mate, Hand Luggage Only, Roaming Required, and Ladies What Travel. It was also wonderful to catch up with familiar faces, including my friend Kristabel from I Want You To Know.
Building these connections is one of the most rewarding aspects of attending events like this. The travel community is full of creative, passionate individuals who inspire each other to explore new places and share their experiences with the world.
Immersed in Art and Memory
One of the most fascinating elements of the evening was the multi-sensory art installations, which allowed us to experience different moments in time and space, either evoking memories from decades ago or transporting us to places far away. These installations provided a unique way to immerse oneself in Singapore’s rich cultural history, blending art, technology, and memory in a truly captivating way.
A standout moment for me was when I encountered the “Singapore Taxi” scent, created by The Memory Project. This particular scent brought back vivid memories of my trip to Singapore in 2015. The power of scent is remarkable—it can transport you across continents in an instant, and that’s exactly what happened. I was suddenly back in the bustling streets of Singapore, surrounded by the familiar smells of the city. It was a moment of nostalgia that made me long to return.
A Taste of Singapore in London
Overall, the evening was an incredible blend of Singaporean culture, art, and food, all set against the backdrop of one of London’s most stylish hotels. From the delicious snacks to the captivating performances, every aspect of the event was designed to transport us to Singapore, even if just for a few hours.
Having visited Singapore before, this event brought back fond memories and renewed my desire to return. If you ever get the chance to experience an event like this—or better yet, travel to Singapore—I highly recommend it. You’ll be captivated by the country’s vibrant energy, delicious food, and rich cultural heritage.
