Breathwork Coach Certification: Where Coaching Skills Stop and Presence Begins
If you’re already a coach, you’ve probably had the thought: I could add breathwork to this. You’re good at questions, at reflecting people back to themselves, at holding a goal steady while someone wobbles. So a breathwork coach certification looks like a short step sideways. I thought so too, and I was wrong in a way that took me about twelve minutes of my first real session to feel.
Coaching lives in language. Breathwork, done properly, lives somewhere underneath it. A person on the mat stops being able to explain what’s happening, sometimes within minutes, and your best question lands on a nervous system that isn’t taking questions. That’s not a failure of coaching. It’s just a different instrument, and the market is full of programs that hand you the instrument without teaching you how it can go off in your hands. Most of us learn that one session in, with someone’s face wet and the clock still running.
What Your Coaching Skills Carry, and What They Can’t
Here’s what most breathwork trainings won’t tell you plainly: your listening, your boundaries and your sense of timing all transfer, and they’re a real head start. But holding space for a Conscious Connected Breathing session is categorically different from a coaching conversation, and the skills that bridge the gap, session intervention techniques, trauma-aware facilitation, dysfunctional breathing assessment, only arrive through supervised practice, which is why so many decent coaches stumble in their first month. Reading about them won’t do it, and that’s not a minor distinction when a client’s nervous system is in your hands.
So the right question isn’t how fast you can get certified. It’s whose training you’ll carry into that room. And here’s the one I’d sit with: what does it mean to build a paid practice on a certification whose lineage reaches back to the 1976 breathwork training offered by The Growth Center, Inc. and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, with standards set by One Sky International Breathwork Association in 1990, compared with a program designed three years ago because the demand was there?

What It Means That This Program Requires a Year of Your Life
Look, a year is the point. Dan Brulé has studied, practised and taught breathwork for more than fifty years, and the One Year Practitioner Certification meets One Sky standards and Leonard Orr’s Rebirthing Breathwork International standards while exceeding the minimum training requirements of both the International Breathwork Foundation and the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance. You keep a daily journal for at least 180 days, which sounds like busywork until you notice you’ve begun catching your own breath holding before a hard conversation. Ten personal sessions with an approved breathworker come next, because a coach who’s never been on the mat is guessing.
Then you facilitate. At least twenty-five one-on-one client sessions, each with a written report, before graduation. (And once you’ve sat with a client in a full session — with all its unpredictability, its emotional release, its long, odd stillness — you understand why twenty-five supervised sessions isn’t an obstacle, it’s the only honest minimum.) Weekly coaching calls run on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. Eastern, peer mentoring happens twice a month, oral and written reports keep you honest, and a final Program Review and exam closes the year, and the question of whether your training prepared you is one you feel in your body before it ever reaches your credentials, and—
The training you chose is the answer.
Range, the Business Side, and the Week in a Room
Breathing Exercises are usually where a coach starts, a technique to offer, and one technique serves one kind of client. The curriculum covers eight established modern methods, from Rebirthing and Transformational Breathing to Holotropic Breathwork, Vivation, Wim Hof, Buteyko, Conscious Connected Breathing and Kundalini or Prana Yoga, which means you can meet an anxious executive, an athlete and someone grieving with something fitted to each. Respiratory anatomy and physiology, group dynamics and spiritual psychology sit beside them.
And, for those of us who run businesses, there’s the Business of Breathwork module, which I almost skimmed and shouldn’t have, because transformation alone doesn’t fill a calendar. Home study runs through the Legacy Collection, seven courses and more than five hundred lessons, and a minimum of one full week of live, in-person training with Dan himself is required, a threshold most self-paced certifications never ask you to cross. The curriculum also goes where many won’t: Death Urge and Physical Immortality, Birth Trauma and Womb Consciousness, Aura Viewing and Sensing.

What It Costs, and What Happens After
Tuition is $7,560 USD, which can be paid in one payment, three payments of $2,600, or six payments of $1,350, and it’s listed publicly, which I took as confidence rather than a pricing tactic. The year can run six months or stretch to two, since coaching practices don’t pause for training. And the weekly calls keep going after graduation, which tells you whether you’ve joined a community or finished a transaction. Twenty-one annual Cabo Breathwork Gatherings is a number no recently launched program can claim.
Maybe this is your next step, maybe it isn’t yet, and either answer deserves a clear head. Read the requirements twice, then once more slowly, and ask yourself honestly what you want your clients to be able to say about the training behind you.
When you’re ready, explore the full program and begin your application at Breath Mastery. Questions first? Write to [email protected]. I’ve walked this year, I know what it asks and what it gives back, and I’d say the same thing to a fellow coach over a long, unhurried coffee.
Questions Serious Practitioners Actually Ask
I’m already a certified coach. Why would I need a separate breathwork coach certification?
Coaching skills transfer, but a Conscious Connected Breathing session isn’t a coaching conversation. The supervised client sessions are where you learn the difference.
How do I know this certification is recognised by the professional breathwork community?
It meets One Sky International Breathwork Association standards (established 1990) and Leonard Orr’s Rebirthing Breathwork International standards, and exceeds the minimum requirements of both the IBF and the GPBA.
Can I fit a one year breathwork certification around a full client load?
Yes. It can be accelerated to six months or extended to two years, with weekly calls on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.
