Harmanpreet Kaur has announced her resignation as captain of the Indian women's cricket team across all formats after a BCCI review meeting held in Guwahati. While she will continue representing India as a player, the leadership responsibilities will transition to another team member.

The news emerged following discussions between BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, head coach Amol Muzumdar, and Harmanpreet herself. This development has quickly become a focal point in recent Harmanpreet Kaur news coverage.

For those tracking the story through the official Playinstrike website, this leadership transition represents a significant moment for Indian women's cricket.

Leadership Change Following Review Session

Harmanpreet shared her decision through an emotional social media statement posted after the review meeting concluded. She spoke about the memories, obstacles, and personal sacrifices associated with her tenure as India's captain.

Her resignation covers all three international formats: Test matches, One-Day Internationals, and T20 Internationals. However, the announcement makes clear that she has not retired from international cricket altogether.

The former skipper is anticipated to remain available for selection as a player. Her vast experience could prove valuable to the squad, especially during this transitional period.

Details of the BCCI Review Session

The BCCI review meeting took place in Guwahati and centered on evaluating the progress and future trajectory of the Indian women's cricket team. Devajit Saikia chaired the discussions, with Smriti Mandhana, Amol Muzumdar, and Harmanpreet also in attendance.

Complete details of the meeting remain undisclosed to the public. Nevertheless, Harmanpreet's announcement shortly after the discussions confirmed that India's leadership structure would undergo changes.

The essential points are:

• Harmanpreet has resigned as captain in all formats.

• The decision came after the BCCI review meeting in Guwahati.

• Smriti Mandhana participated in the meeting in her vice-captain capacity.

• Amol Muzumdar attended as the head coach.

• The BCCI has not officially announced a permanent replacement yet.

Harmanpreet's Statement to Supporters

In her statement, Harmanpreet reflected on her journey leading the Indian team. She characterized the decision as challenging and mentioned the intense emotions tied to captaining the national side.

She also indicated that she will continue her cricket career as a player. This means fans may still see her participate in India's upcoming assignments, though she will no longer bear the responsibility of leading the team.

This role change could enable Harmanpreet to concentrate more intently on her batting, fielding, and personal preparation. It may also alleviate some of the pressure associated with captaining India across every format.

Smriti Mandhana Emerges as Potential Successor

Focus will now shift to identifying the next captain of the Indian women's cricket team. Smriti Mandhana stands among the potential candidates given her role as vice-captain and her presence at the BCCI review meeting.

However, no official appointment has been confirmed. Until the BCCI announces its decision, speculation about the next captain should be considered unverified.

The incoming leader will need to manage a team competing across three formats. The captain will also collaborate closely with the coaching staff and senior players while helping steer the next chapter of Indian women's cricket.

Fresh Phase for Women's Cricket in India

A change in captaincy can influence team planning, communication channels, and how responsibilities are distributed within a squad. It can also create openings for other senior players to assume more prominent roles.

The BCCI now needs to outline the next steps. These may involve appointing a new captain, confirming the leadership group, and detailing how the team will progress following the review.

Harmanpreet's Future Contributions

Harmanpreet continues to be one of the most seasoned players in the Indian setup. Her knowledge of international cricket could continue supporting younger squad members.

The change in role might also give her additional time to focus on her individual responsibilities. Without the captaincy burden, she may be able to prepare with greater concentration and contribute without the same leadership pressures.

Her future involvement will depend on selection decisions and team requirements. At this stage, the confirmed development is that she has stepped away from the captaincy, not from international cricket.

Significance of This Decision

Harmanpreet Kaur's resignation following an official BCCI review makes this development significant for Indian women's cricket. It concludes one leadership era and initiates another.

The next captain will encounter different demands in Test cricket, 50-over cricket, and T20 cricket. Strong backing from the vice-captain, coach, and senior players will be crucial during this transition.

The BCCI's forthcoming announcement will provide clarity on the new leadership arrangement. Until then, fans will continue monitoring updates about Harmanpreet, Smriti, and the future direction of the Indian women's cricket team.
