Explore Kanha National Park: Madhya Pradesh’s Top Tiger Reserve & Wildlife Haven
Kanha National Park is among Madhya Pradesh's biggest parks in the Central Highlands' Maikal range of Satpuras. Kanha National Park, located in the Madala and Kalaghat districts, spans a vast area of 1,949 square kilometers, including 940 square kilometers of core area and 1,009 square kilometers of the buffer zone.
The park is home to a large population of Royal Bengal Tigers, Indian leopards, sloth bears, barasingha, Indian wild dog, wild cats, foxes, and jackals, among other animals. The park has played an essential role in saving the swamp deer recognized as barasingha from extinction. Tourists can go on safari excursions in four safari zones (Kanha, Kisli, Mukki, and Sarahi).
Kanha Tiger Reserve also has around 1000 blooming plant species. The lowland forest combines sal and other mixed forest trees with intermingled meadows. The highland woods are tropical wet, dry deciduous forests distinct from bamboo on slopes. The thick forest also has a significant quantity of Indian ghost trees. Kanha Tiger Reserve is abundant in meadows, essentially open grasslands that have sprouted up in fields of abandoned villages evacuated to make space for the animals.
