Rocket League players have always gravitated Rocket League Items to just a few of the dozens of battlecars available in the game. The wedge-shaped Octane and the boxy Dominus have historically been the game’s most popular cars, but the hatchback-style Fennec has gained popularity among casuals and pro players alike since its release in 2019.

Watch any Rocket League Championship Series match and you’re likely to see the Fennec represented — the recent North American Winter Invitational grand final had 4 of 6 players using the hot hatchback.

But unlike the Octane and Dominus, the Fennec isn’t a free car and it can be somewhat tricky to track down. Usually, players must “build” the car from a randomly-dropped blueprint, or trade with other players for a blueprint or the car itself.

For a limited time, however, a black-painted Fennec is available for purchase in the in-game item shop, along with some sweet new cosmetics. The black Fennec is a special variant of the car that includes black trim on its fenders, a popular color for Rocket League collectors and fashionistas.

The black Fennec is available in the items shop for 700 credits (roughly $7) for 48 hours, expiring at 4 PM EDT (GMT-4). The Fennec, let alone a special variant, doesn’t hit the item shop very often so be sure to snag it while it’s available.

The Fennec uses the same hitbox as the Octane (along with three dozen other cars), but some claim that it feels the most natural to use, and that the visuals of the car more accurately match how the ball bounces off of it. This visual consistency can lead to better ball control and outweighs the momentary awkwardness of adjusting to a new car.

In addition to the car itself, players can buy a four pack of Fennec decals for 1100 credits as part of the Neo Tokyo: Aftermarket series. These neon-soaked decals are available until April 3 and new Aftermarket cosmetic packs are released every two days until March 30.

Note that items purchased through the item shop can’t be traded with other players, so if you’re hoping to trade it or buy an item for a friend, your best bet is to track down a blueprint. If you do choose to purchase from the item shop, be sure to use an Epic Creator Code to support your favorite content creators or Rocket League pros — commonly found in the “PlayerSpike Storm is available in Rocket League for the first week of the event – until February 1st, to be precise.
