Smart Textile Display Systems

Breakthroughs in materials1,2,3,4,5,6 and process development7,8,9 have paved the way for emerging smart textile technologies based on electronics with new form factors.

Electronic textiles capable of communicating, sensing and supplying electricity have been reported previously, but textiles with functional, large-area displays have not yet been achieved, because it is challenging to obtain small illuminating units that are both durable and easy to assemble over a wide area.

1. Durability

A durable display is essential for businesses that use them frequently. It can save you money in the long run by avoiding the cost of replacing damaged displays.

The best way to achieve this is with a quality display system, preferably one that features fabric graphics as well as other materials such as LED lights and speakers. A sturdy frame and interlocking components are the key to a long-lasting system that will keep your business running smoothly for years to come.

2. Lightweight

A multi-panel display according to the present invention includes a plurality of rigid panels innerconnected along side and top and bottom edges by lightweight hinges. Each of the outer sides of a panel of a display section is completely covered with fabric coating 30 that preferably extends over adjacent panels and their connecting strip hinges so as to form a continuous surface over the multi-panel display.

In order to complete the smooth and interupted Display System Fabric coating without visible seams, fabric ends at both top and bottom edges of the front and back surfaces of each of the outer sides of the panels are folded over into slots in the outer periphery of each of the outer panels. The folded fabric at both the top and bottom edges of each of the panel surfaces is fastened together by a suitable adhesive material such as contact cement or similar adhesive.

3. Easy to assemble

As a result, these displays can be assembled and dismantled quickly for short term shows. It’s also a very cost-effective option for trade show marketing and can be reused over and over again, saving you money in the long run.

According to Sharon Roland, advertising and PR manager at Fisher Textiles, one of the main benefits of fabric is its ease of assembly and installation. It has a slight stretch that allows it to fit tightly into aluminum frame systems.

Other advantages of fabric include its reusability and easy maintenance. It won’t crease or tear, ensuring it stays in great shape for multiple sales events or product launches. It can even be washed! It also won’t snag on things like wires or cables, so it can be used in many different displays and promotional settings.

4. Versatile

Designed for simplicity and value, our portable, lightweight fabric display system such as satin fabric is versatile by allowing users to change out graphics easily and quickly without tools. A silicone edge graphic fits seamlessly into customizable "profile" framing hardware, resulting in a professional looking, lightweight display that can be assembled or disassembled in minutes.

The modular frame is a great option for trade shows, expos and conferences where you need to create a temporary space with a large amount of impact. Alternatively, the flexible frame is also great for integrating with your existing booth or pop up display for easy set up and breakdown.

Our smart textile system combines RGB fibre LEDs with multifunctional fibre devices for wireless power transmission, touch sensing, photodetection, environmental/biosignal monitoring and energy storage. This approach provides a systematic and transformational design and integration strategy to realize highly functional smart lighting/display textiles over large area for revolutionizing applications on smart homes and internet of things (IoT).

5. Easy to clean

Most fabric display graphic panels can be spot cleaned, or they may also hold up well to machine washing. Check the manufacturer's care instructions to determine the exact makeup and construction of your display skins, and use the cleaning method recommended in that document.

For displays that are frequently set up on the ground, vinyle fabric, like trade show hanging signs, it's a good idea to place a plastic throw down on the floor to protect the fabric from dirt or grime. This should help keep your display looking great. However, it's always best to avoid paper towels or other materials that can cling to the display. They can become abrasive and scratch your screen. This can affect your display's performance and readability. Instead, use a microfiber cloth, or a washable, non-abrasive cleaning agent.
