ATM, 헤타페에서 '부활한 천재' 영입 관심···맨유는 무려 873억 요구 - 스포츠경향 | 뉴스배달부

Manchester United have set a high transfer fee for Mason Greenwood, who has been a revelation on loan at Getafe.

Spain's Mundo Deportivo reported on April 24 (ET) that "United have set a £50 million ($84.7 billion) price tag on Atletico Madrid (ATM) for Greenwood. ATM thinks the price is outrageous."

The club has recently been given a new owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. He recently completed the acquisition of a 25% minority stake in the club. There have already been a number of recent changes at United. Omar Verada, the former chief operating officer of rival Manchester City, has been named CEO, and a new stadium at Old Trafford has been finalized.

Nevertheless, there is someone who makes Lord Ratcliffe's head hurt. That would be Greenwood. Greenwood is currently playing on loan at Getafe. United tried to sell Greenwood in the summer transfer window, even going so far as to include a 20% sell-on clause that would have cost them money.

Greenwood was one of United's brightest prospects. He was a bright future for the Red Devils, especially given their lack of strikers. Greenwood broke into the first-team in 2018-19, and in 2019-20, he burst onto the scene and earned a regular spot in the starting lineup. He scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 49 games, anchoring United's right-side attack.

However, in the middle of the 2021-22 season, the club received shocking news. Local media reported that Greenwood had assaulted and raped his girlfriend. In an official statement, the club announced that Greenwood would not be participating in team training and would not play in any matches until further notice. Greenwood was dropped from the first-team squad.

Ultimately, United decided that Greenwood would not return. Greenwood's option was to go on loan to Getafe, where he has been one of the best performers of the season. He has six goals and five assists in 24 Spanish Primera Liga games. He has been on a recent upswing, scoring 바카라사이트 three goals and providing one assist in nine games from late January through this month.

The big Spanish clubs are already salivating over Greenwood's performance. Barcelona and ATM are among the favorites to sign Greenwood, with Real Madrid also in the mix. Recently, Juventus, the reigning Italian Serie A champions, have also joined the chase, sending Greenwood's stock soaring.

Greenwood's choice is also important. The truth is that Greenwood would rather stay in Spain than return to United or move to Italy. "Greenwood loves Spain and wants to stay in Spain next season," Paul Hurst of The Times said on Dec. 12. United are also leaning towards selling Greenwood in the summer and cashing in rather than bringing him back.

Two teams have already dropped out of the race to sign him. Barcelona have withdrawn from the race for Greenwood because they expect to be criticized if they sign him. Real are also unlikely to sign him. They already have PSG striker Kylian Mbappe on their books and are unlikely to make a move as their attacking options are saturated with the likes of Vinicius Junior and Hodriguez.

With Barcelona and Real out of the picture, ATM approached United for a transfer, but United wanted around $85 billion. ATM will never pay this amount, but United have the advantage. If no one else is interested, United can bring Greenwood back next season and include him in their squad.

Greenwood"s popularity is growing by the day. Soccer fans are eager to find out which team he"ll be wearing next season.
